Heart Legacy A Celta Novel Robin D Owens 9780425263976 Books

I have followed this series with much pleasure. Until the last two books. This last story is probably the most lackluster example of a romance I've ever read from an author that can write some truly beautiful stuff.

Pros
I love this world.
Fam animals had lots of life and depth I enjoyed. (More then most human characters.)

Cons
There was nothing new introduced in the world already well explored and much loved.
The pacing was painfully slow.
The hero, Dreag, was a drag. He left me frustrated - in a bad way. No guts, no emotional depth, much too young for the heroine who was mature way beyond her own age. He was useless to her in her struggles and only served as light relief/sexual outlet, in my opinion. I was left feeling he got his HEA without having deserved it. And I was disapointed in the heroine for not having made him prove himself worthy of her.
While the storyline was essentially good, it was poorly realised.
Villains were utterly two dimentional.
Cameos from characters from previous books were unfunny, unnecessary and added little to the story.

In conclusion, I finished the book feeling disatisfied and a bit sad that such a great series had gotten so blah.
This is most definitely the last book I'll be buying from this author. This seams tragic as Owens is/used to be an amazing writer that fired my imagination with her stories. But three books in a row that trully sucked...I've exhausted my goodwill.
Sorry.

Heart Legacy A Celta Novel Robin D Owens 9780425263976 Books Reviews

Loridana is the current head of the Yew household, even though no one acknowledges it. Loridana has been pushed aside and kept tightly contained year after year by her cousins who manage the estate with the help of the Residence. Because she has been allowed no personal freedom or emotional outlet, all of Lori's love and devotion goes to her Famcat and striderbeasts on the estate.

The First Families start to become curious about Loridana and even suspect her of conspiring with a radical group that would like to eliminate First Families who have married commoners. To get information, the First Families send in Draeg Blackthorne to spy on the household by hiring on as a stablehand. Through their shared love of horses and striderbeasts, Lori and Draeg begin a sweet friendship that eventually becomes a passionate love affair. However, things are rapidly declining as attacks are made on Lori's life, and Draeg now has to figure out what is going on with the Yew estate and his beloved.

As with all of Ms. Owen's books, the writing is beautiful, the plot is well-thought out and the idea for the storyline is unique. I really enjoyed this book until the last 25%. The hero seemed focused too much on the estate for my taste, and even though I knew Draeg loved Lori, I also felt he loved what she would bring to a marriage just as much. At the end I also felt Lori did more talking and was more open with Draeg's cousin in a call to the estate than she really was with Draeg. I felt the conflict between the two of them was never really resolved as much as Lori just decided to take Draeg anyway she could get him and forgive all his lying and transgressions. I felt Draeg never really worked hard enough for Lori, and at time he was just another problem that she had to tend to. I would think a hero is suppose to offer support and make things better, and Draeg really only supported himself. Still and all, I definitely enjoyed the book

I don't know what it is about Ms. Owen's Celta Series but it is still enjoyable after all these years, and I would not hesitate to recommend these books to any lover of romance mixed with a little fantasy.
I have read this series from the beginning and, while liking some more than others, had never been as disappointed as this time. The hero was an idiot who made no effort to really support the heroine. (Suffers in comparison to Tine Holy's book, with a similar theme!)

The heroine was mature enough, but the story shoe-horned her into a ridiculous ending.

I thought the author would take the chance to explore the death of an ancient residence. The subject was brushed upon in a previous book and here was the chance to see it happen, but nooo. We have to have the saccharine ending with no real justice for the heroine. Oh well, everybody else got what they wanted.

The fams didn't add much to the story and the cameos from previous characters were a waste of space. I'd have rather seen the heroine coming into her own and more of the family rebuilding than such an abrupt ending.

I think I'll pretend this one didn't happen and hope for better next time.
